Chicken Feet Processing plant


PROJECT BACKGROUND

Chicken feet are cooked and eaten in many countries. After an outer layer of hard skin is removed, most of the edible tissue on the feet consists of skin and tendons, with no muscle. This gives the feet a distinct texture different from the rest of the chicken's meat. Being mostly skin, chicken feet are very gelatinous.

Until about 20 years ago, paws were close to value-less for a chicken company. But thanks to huge demand in China, paws have become big profit centers. The U.S. now exports about 300,000 metric tons of chicken paws every year. Perdue Food Company (USA) alone produces more than a billion chicken feet a year, which brings in more than $40 million of revenue. In fact, without the paw, chicken companies would be hard-pressed to stay in business.

MARKET SHARE

There is a high demand for poultry meat across the world. In 2020, the world poultry meat production stood at 135 million metric tons, growing at a CAGR of 11%. Japan , Mexico, Iraq and China are the mail poultry meat importing countries while Brazil, USA, Thailand and Turkey are the main poultry meat exporting countries. China alone imports $ 170 million of chicken feet in 2018.
